Pandora's Story.....

Pandora was abandoned at birth and left in a bucket to die.  In her first days of life, she had an infection which caused serious joint damage.  Her right hip completely disintegrated and both of her elbows are permanently damaged.  With swim therapy, she learned to walk and is still doing very well.  No one has told her she's handicapped and she enjoys racing around the yard with her brother.  She will have more and more pain as she begins to age, but she's a tough girl and is quite happy having just reached her third birthday.

May, 2007:  Pandora has been having some health issues throughout this past year.  Urinary problems consisting of her urine not being able to concentrate.  It is believed she may be in early kidney disease with more testing forthcoming.  But we worry more about the significant pain she is having in her joints.  Pain medicine is only a last option because of her kidneys.  Her foster Mom is going to try to put her back on "water therapy" as she did when she was just a little pup. This therapy consists of having her swim to help work her joints.  It is expensive for a rehab session at our Vets.  So, other options are being looked into.  Pandora is too tall for a bathtub swim like she used to do when she was a pup!  Her foster Mom has a horse trough.  She is in need of a "heater" for it.   She has used in the past, a 500-gallon aquarium heater, but it didn't last long.

We would appreciate your donations to help!  We need to receive or purchase:

*doggie life-vest (old one is too small now)

*heater (to heat the horse trough)

*solar cover (which would help keep water heated without having to use the actual heater so much)

**another option we looked into is purchasing an actual 48" pool package.  It might be cheaper in the long run but may not work in the winter time!)

When Pandora was only a couple of weeks old, the Vets said that her life expectancy would not be too long.  As you read above, she reached her "3rd birthday".  She is a fighter.  Even though she is in pain, it is hard to keep this girl down.  Some dogs can hide pain so easily.  It is the wish of her foster Mom to be able to allow Pandora to continue being the dog that "Pandora" wishes to be.  From Pandora, Pat and all of the dog department volunteers, we thank you for reading her story and for making a donation towards her medical needs.
