Cats in Foster Homes Available for Adoption

Since Pet Refuge is a No-Kill Animal Shelter, we always have more pets (especially cats) than we have room for at our Mishawaka location. Luckily, there are people and families willing to SHARE their homes with these unfortunate animals.  BUT, since they live away from the shelter, they are not always able to be at our adoption days, which, of course, diminishes their chances of being adopted into a permanent home with a family to call their very own!

We're hoping that, by setting up this page, we will be able to "showcase" these needy kitties and, if you see a feline (or two or three) you'd like to meet, call our office or contact us by email to arrange a convenient time to give a foster cat a chance so that we may continue our mission of caring for homeless pets!

Cat Adoptions every Monday 6 pm-8pm, every Thursday 6pm-8pm and every Sunday Noon-2pm

STELLA
DOB August 2007
What a lovely, silky, girl!  Stella, a.k.a. "Little Miss Priss", is a very sweet little kitty.  She is a bit wary of humans at first, but she is coming out of her shell more and more every day.  She loves to play with other cats, and she is particularly fond of Oscar, one of her foster siblings.  She flaunts her long, fluffy tail at him and flirts with him shamelessly!  Stella would sure love to take Oscar to her new home with her, but we're sure she would warm up to your cat, too. I WAS ADOPTED 7/13!!!!
ANTHONY
DOB October 2006

You would think that only having 3 legs would slow Anthony down - you have to see him to believe how well he can get around and up onto things!  He came to us with a severely mangled front leg that had to be amputated. Anthony is a handsome, gray & white boy who is just as sweet as can be and loves attention and to be held. WL

BOBBIE

DOB 2007

Isn't Bobbie a fluffy-eared cutie-pie?  This nice little brown tabby has medium length, silky fur.  She is playful, has a very sweet personality, and gets along well with other cats. LG

SUSHI

DOB March 2005

Sushi is a sweet dsh grey female. She enjoys being petted and playing with toys on strings. Sushi also gets along well with other cats. She is a bit shy in new surroundings and around new people, but once she gets used to things, she is a very happy girl. She loves canned food and napping in the sun. Sushi is spayed, current on her vaccinations and micro-chipped. (R&B)

4 PAW DECLAWED

I WAS ADOPTED 7/10!!!!

LUCY

DOB June 2004

4 PAW DECLAWED

Lucy is a beautiful, four paw declawed brown tabby with great swirly patterns on her sides and a creamy white belly.  Even though she is declawed, she still loves to use a sisal scratching post.  She is very talkative and loves to sleep on the bed with her foster family members.  While she has learned to get along with her housemates, she would prefer to be the only cat in a quiet household.

BIANCA
DOB APRIL 2007

Bianca is the only female of a litter of 5 black kittens that were dumped at the shelter with their mother.  She is the “little girl” at about 10 lbs., is the most talkative and loves to wrestle, especially with Dusty.   She has a skinny tail which she carries high and when startled has earned the nickname “Bianca Razorback.”

(Sue)

GARTH
DOB APRIL 2007

Garth is the most shy of the litter, but once he warms up to you, he is a contented lap cat with a healthy motor.  He is as soft and sleek as a jaguar and has beautiful golden eyes.  He loves to play with a wide range of toys and wrestles with his littermates too. At almost a year old, he weighs about 12 lbs.

(Sue)

BILBO
DOB APRIL 2007

Bilbo is a big cat at 13 lbs.  He is affectionate and has a loud motor like his brother Garth.  He enjoys cuddling and is a great heater cat (especially with his bulk!).  It is difficult to exercise with him around because as soon as you lie down on a weight bench or exercise mat, he tries to sit on your chest!

.(Sue)

DUSTY
DOB APRIL 2007

Dusty is a beautiful, fluffy long-haired cat and has grown a smoky belly to complement his soft coat and his white whiskers.  He carries his fluffy tail high and often curled over his back.  He has always been the ‘alpha cat’.  He doesn’t enjoy being held or laps, but he is very affectionate on the floor where he enjoys rough cuddles and wants to lie next to your feet or legs.  He is about 12 lbs also.

WAYNE WRIGHT

DOB January 2005

It would be hard to find a better looking cat than Wayne Wright.  This handsome DSH light orange tabby came to us very scared and very shy.  Thanks to a lot of love and patience from our volunteers, Wayne is turning into a very loving guy.  Once he gets to know you, he will shower you with plenty of kitty kisses.  He loves to be brushed and is becoming more playful.  He has been doing well with other cats and needs a home that will understand his shy side and continue to show him plenty of love and patience.  If you promise to give him time to trust you, he promises to love you forever. (Angela)

LEVI

DOB January 2004

This handsome DSH black male was rescued from a house fire.  Levi loves everyone and does great with other cats.  His best friend at the shelter is Frisco (see the Buddy Cat Page for Frisco) and they can often be seen leaning on each other while they walk together (why not adopt a pair?)  He does great with children too!  Levi is the perfect combination of being both affectionate and playful.  He would be happiest in a home where he can get plenty of love, preferably with another feline friend to keep him company while you are gone.  Levi is also neutered and current on all his shots (Angela)

DOWNTOWN BUSTER BROWN

DOB September 2003

Found as a stray teenager, this brown tabby shorthaired male would do best in a quiet home with, no loud dogs or children.  Although very shy, we hope the right human will come along who can earn his trust...so he can learn to love and be loved. Downtown Buster Brown gets along well with other cats. (Angela)

SWEETIE
DOB March 2005

Sweetie is a very sweet and playful brown and white tabby. She came to us as a pregnant stray and raised her 7 kittens in a foster home.  Sweetie is now ready to find her forever home.
(Bonnie W.)

OSCAR

DOB July 2006

What a sweetheart!  Oscar has a silky,  medium length coat that just shines.  He also has a shining personality!  Oscar is affectionate, playful and would very much like to be part of your family. (Carole)

BABY CHOO

DOB May 2005

Baby Choo is a dsh white & black male. Baby Choo is a very active and nosy young man. He likes to be into everything. He is not big on being picked up and held, but he loves to be petted and will let you know when he wants to be loved on. He does well with other cats (after a short adjustment period) and enjoys running around the house playing chase games with them. Baby Choo is current on all of his vaccines, neutered and micro-chipped. (R&B)

CARRIE

DOB 2003

Carrie is a sweet brown-tabby-and- white spayed female who was found as a stray.  She is ready to be adopted into her forever home. (Sandi)

BETTY DAVIS

DOB April 2004

The irresistible Betty Davis is a brown tabby and white female who is the ultimate lap cat!  She is so incredibly sweet, but may "act" -- like the real actress herself -- a bit shy at first...perhaps playing hard to get?  Betty Davis warms up quickly, however, but will definitely need a quieter home -- especially one without small children. (Betsy/Mike)

We also are in need of good foster homes to help us care for the animals who continue to need our care and love. If you are interested in becoming a temporary foster home for one of our pets (we have cats and dogs in need of foster care), click here to fill out a form to see if you qualify for our foster home program.
