Giving the gift of love........

Kasey, an available Collie/Shepherd mix, recently visited with some of the residents at "St. Paul's Retirement Community" with one of our volunteers.  Recently, after a visit to our Vets office, we discovered that Kasey had a lump in the back of her mouth.  It was removed, but we were told that its' a 50/50 chance that the growth will come back in her mouth or throat.  You can imagine how sad this makes us as Kasey is so loving with all of the volunteers.  One of our volunteers, Dede, has a soft spot for our gal, and wanted to take her for some outings, away from the shelter.  We have learned that she has a true calling as a therapy dog and has enjoyed her trips to St. Paul's.  A big thank you to the residents there for giving some love to our Kasey.

Shelter Cleaning Volunteers needed!

If you enjoy being around dogs, make a "New Year's resolution" right now and volunteer with us!  We could really use your help!  We are in need of volunteers to help on cleaning shifts, to take care of the dogs that stay at our shelter.  A commitment of 2-4 hours, one day a week, is all they need and you would be making a big difference in their lives. We especially need morning and afternoon help on the shifts.  Please email us  or call our shelter (574-256-0886) if you can help.

Foster Homes needed!

The dog department is also in need of foster homes for puppies and adult dogs waiting for their forever homes to come along.  Foster homes are important to the dogs as you will be helping them to learn obedience and housebreaking skills (if needed). Puppy foster homes are especially needed as we have many litters of pups on our waiting list that we cannot take in.  Puppies need more monitoring and we do not like them to have to stay at the shelter.  Adult dogs will also benefit from being in a foster home as it is less stressful than the shelter can be.  If you are interested in becoming a foster family, please email us or call our shelter at 574-256-0886. Pet Refuge provides all medical and food costs.
