A big thank you to Randy, Kathleen and Bear!

A happy moment for every volunteer of the dog department is to receive an update on one of our adopted dogs. We love to know how they are doing.  Cody came to us, chained to our fence at the shelter.  This is something we hate to see happen because many times dogs come up missing when this happens.  When we found him, he was extremely thin, weighing only 39 pounds.  We could see every rib!  However, there are many kind people that come to Pet Refuge.  Even though Cody needed a lot of work, his potential was all that his new owner thought about and she wanted to give him a chance.  That chance is all that Cody needed!  He is now a very HEALTHY AND HAPPY boy in his new home with a  4-legged brother to play with and human parents that adore him!

Just to let you know, Tuesday is GREAT! She slept in my daughter's room on her nice fuzzy carpet. I had to laugh when I got up this morning, she's just like everyone else in this family. She isn't a morning person. I called her to go outside, she stretched and walked real slow, as if to say, "okay, if you insist!" Right now she's sleeping on the couch in front of the TV. Jaime, my oldest, is so excited that Tuesday will be picking her up from school everyday! She thinks that's so cool! Tuesday will probably get into such a routine with us that she'll anticipate the time we leave because it's exactly the same everyday. Our life is so predictable. On tuesdays and thursdays, Jillian, my little one, has therapy and Jaime is going to stay home and "baby sit!" and on wednesdays we go to reins of life and Tuesday will get to go with us there. This is going to be so much fun. She seems to have a real like for my husband. He came home this morning and she went right to him and sat on his foot! He just adores her. I'll keep you updated. Thanks again for letting us have her. She defintely is going to get spoiled here!

To all the great people at Pet Refuge:

Hello all!  It's been a year (almost to the day) since I came to live with my forever family and boy what a year it's been!  My Mom & Dad love me very much and are still thrilled that they got the chance to change my life for the better.  We've had both ups and downs and I thought I'd take some time to tell you about my new life!  After doing some research Mom and Dad don't think that I'm actually a mastiff/rottweiler mix.  They think I fit the breed description of a Boerboel (a type of mastiff) perfectly.  Even strangers have asked if that's what breed I am!  Who knew? Not only do my Mom & Dad love me, but ALL of their family, friends and even perfect strangers on the street just can't resist my adorable face!  Everyone wants to meet me and most don't even mind if I slobber a bit on them!  The only ones not happy with me, however, are my two feline sisters, Sadie and Chester.  I hardly ever even seem to notice that they are there but on the rare occasion I try to "play", all I get are hisses and growls.  Oh, well I guess you just can't please everyone!  For the first two months I was very polite and didn't bark at all.  Boy, did I have my Mom & Dad fooled! Once I settled in, and they heard my bark for the first time, the ground shook! I'm still mostly polite and only bark at the neighborhood cats that come into my yard (and the mailman of course).  Otherwise, I'm just as easy going as I was when they first met me.  My favorite past-time is sleeping.  In fact, Mom & Dad swear that I really am their third cat but in a dog's body.  They take me most everywhere they go because I don't like being left alone too much.  It seems that I had more separation anxiety than they realized and broke out of my crate twice before they figured out how to "Titan proof" it!  Recently when the weather was bad, I've gotten to go to Planet Canine in Elkhart for "Yappy Hour" on the weekends.  I get soooo excited when Mom or Dad ask if I want to go and play with the other doggies.  It hasn't all been great though.  Unfortunately, after three months in my new home, I had a grand mal seizure.  Mom freaked out and tried to make Dad call 911.  It only lasted about 45 seconds but it was very scary.  When I came to, I had trouble standing and was disoriented. Since it was at night, Mom & Dad took me to the emergency vet and later my regular doctor.  That was the beginning of a rough road for all of us. I've had many seizures since (though none that last more than a couple of minutes) and am now on both Phenobarbital and Potassium Bromide. My vet at Gilmer Park Animal Clinic, Dr. Elise, is great and has been trying very hard to get my seizures under control.  We all found out that because I'm so big, medications take a long time to build in my system and work properly. Mom & Dad have been very patient and have spent a lot of money for testing and medications, but agree that I'm worth every penny.  I even have Dr. Elise and all of the staff at Gilmer Park under my spell!  They all comment on how wonderful I am and always try to give me treats and peanut butter! It's been about two weeks since my last seizure (at one time I was having them every 4-6 days) and counting!  If my current medicines don't work in the long run, Mom & Dad are considering taking me on a road trip to Purdue. I hear they are the best in the area for dogs like me who have epilepsy.  For now I'm doing ok, though Mom & Dad agree to do whatever it takes to keep me healthy. I sure am glad they picked me!  Finally, thank you to all of the wonderful people there at Pet Refuge!  All of the volunteers' time and efforts really do make a difference for great dogs like me, who had an unlucky start in life.  Your dedication has made it possible for me to live out what will, hopefully, be many happy years in a warm home with parents that love me very much.

With slobbery kisses, Titan (Lane)

Hi Everyone, We just wanted to update everyone on our new home.....we LOVE it! It sure beats living on the streets! We have our very own bedroom & a great fenced backyard to run & play. We tore up all the grass but Mom & Dad said it's o.k. We also love to cuddle on the couch (we think we need a bigger one!) We even went to obedience school for a while. We still  have to work on our leash walking, but don't worry we will figure that out also. We get great food and treats and also go for car rides which we love!!!! Thanks for taking care of us and finding us our forever home!!!  Love, Lady & Thor  P.S. Mom & Dad say hi!!!

Hi everyone I don't know if you remember me my name is CedricI was adopted almost a month ago. I love my new home! I have so many toys to chew on.  My new parents Kris and his wife Cheri are great!!  They let me ride in the car all the time but of course they make me wear a seat belt which I am not to fond of I would rather help my dad drive.  They already took me to my new vet and I was so scared I cried when I got my shots.  I also get my ears cleaned and toe nails clipped everyone laughed at me because I was whining the whole time!  But I got a cute bandanna for St. Patricks Day and I got a rawhide bone afterwards.  My mom keeps taking pictures of me but I don't mind!!  Here are some of my favorite pictures she has taken of me.  Lots of people my dad works with has asked for pictures of me so I am a star!!  Plus I have gotten a lot of neat toys and treats from them too!  At night I like to lay in between my mom and dad.  My new grandpa has a female dog so when my mom and dad go to visit they take me too and my new friend Heather and I run around like crazy and then when we leave I sleep all the way home!!  I am so happy with my new home I couldn't have asked for a better one!  I hope other dogs are as lucky as I am!!  And I and my parents would like to that all the volunteers at Pet Refuge for helping us find each other!!

Hello, Today we celebrate the adoption of our Rudy, a cairn terrier /corgi mix . We took him home from Pet Refuge a year ago today.  Then he had a bit of an attitude . Now, thanks to help from Antoinette at Top Hat and Tails, and lots of love,  he is amazing and the most wonderful companion. He loves our grandchildren and he loves us. Of course we love him. Today I sang him Happy Birthday because we are so thankful that you rescued him and allowed us to have him. We are happy to come to the 23rd Benefit dinner and already have our tickets. Thank you !Thank you! Bob and Kathe Stowe
