SENIOR CATS (7 years and older)

The cats you see on this page are senior felines. Most are still very adoptable - unless otherwise noted. We have other Seniors of varying age at our Shelter that are not on our website.  Please come visit and ask to see who we currently have in residence at that time.  They truly do have a lot of life experience and love to give for many more years - a cat CAN live 15 to 20 years.

LAST UPDATED 1/22/12

LOUIE

 DOB July 2003

Louie's face is full of character and expression He is a large sweet boy who will approach you and sometimes follow you until you give him some love. He has a strong independent personality and is usually found relaxing quietly by himself; but say his name and he is right by your side looking for a little love. He gets along relatively well with other cats, but will stick up for himself if provoked.

JASON

DOB 2001

Jason was adopted long ago but sadly his person had to return him when he went into a nursing home. Jason is a friendly loving cat who will nudge you if you stop petting him. He is also a talker ready to share his thoughts with you.

SAMANTHA

DOB February 1999

Samantha is a very low key cat who is sometimes a bit shy at first. If you sit next to her and stroke her she will let you know how much she appreciates it. She loves to be petted around her ears. Samantha mostly ignores the other cats but is ok with them.

TEDDY BEAR

DOB February 2000

Teddy Bear is shy at first but when comfortable is a sweet lovable goof who will roll over for a petting. He has a wonderful loud purr when happy. A darling boy!

JORDAN

DOB May 2003

Jordan is a bit quiet and shy at first but he is a lovable sweet fellow once he feels comfortable. He really likes people and he is ok with other cats.

Front Declawed
TYE

DOB February 2003

Tye's people had to move and could not take Tye with them. Tye is very uncomfortable around dogs but has been ok with children. He does take time to get to know other cats but was ok about that too. Tye would love a quieter home without dogs.
TRUFFLES

DOB November 2003

This pretty lady really wants to be in a nice quiet home where there are no loud dogs or children or even other cats to bother her. She really likes to meditate in quiet sometimes but she enjoys quality time with the friendly patient humans who care for her at the shelter. She is hoping that someone caring will see how special she is and want to take the time to get to know her and give her a home.

Macey and her friend Jake

MACEY GRAY

DOB March 2001

Macey Gray found herself homeless when her owner died. A neighbor took her for a while but Macey was used to a nice quiet home and the neighbor’s home was a bit too active for her. At our shelter, she has been doing well with some other cats and she seems to really like Jake (who has been adopted).

FRONT DECLAWED

RUBY

DOB May 2002

Ruby is a very sweet cat who just loves being with people. Ruby gets along nicely with other cats and doesn’t mind smaller dogs that will leave her alone. She would prefer a quiet home to live out her senior years. (Linda)

PIPPIN

DOB April 2004

Pippin is a lovely boy who likes to sit next to you. He was initially a bit shy when he was returned to Pet Refuge, but he has turned into a very social cat. Pippin does enjoy the company of other cats.
RITA

DOB December 2003

Rita, as you can see in the picture, enjoys talking to her human friends.  Sometimes she talks to humans she does not know too.  She is less inclined to socialize with other species. In fact, she really is not happy with children, dogs or other cats and would prefer to be the only cat. At least that is what she tells us.
SMOKEY JOE

DOB April 2001

Smokey Joe is a sweetheart but a little shy and uneasy with all the hustle and noise at the shelter. We are told he likes dogs but not young children and prefers the ladies.

FRONT DECLAWED
MISSY

DOB October 1998

Missy may be a senior but she is a truly lovely sweet girl.  She is a bit shy - but who can blame her? She came from a very high stress situation and would like to find a quieter home with no dogs or children and preferably no other cats.  Missy does love to stretch out in the sunshine and to be petted but please do not pick her up because she likes to sit next to you to communicate.

PARKER

DOB: October 2002

Parker is a sweet senior cat with a goofy smile - he's missing some teeth, but that doesn't seem to stop him from chewing, and it gives him some extra character. Adopted from Pet Refuge once before, he had a rough time when things didn't work out so well for him with his first family, and he ended up at Animal Control where Pet Refuge found and rescued him again. This time he's looking for a family that will keep him for good.

Are you willing to show Parker what a forever home looks like?
CLEO

DOB: April 2003

Cleo is a laid back, peaceful girl with a cute black nose that gives her face tons of personality.  Cleo enjoys drinking from the sink, and frequently has a wet head!  Due to a nerve injury, she cannot jump very high, but she always asks for help.  She gets along very well with adults and children, but would probably prefer to be the only animal of the house.

FRONT DECLAWED
INDY

DOB: May 2003

Indy would like nothing more than a home of his own. Unfortunately, life at the shelter has been hard on him. Being around so many other cats does not always bring out the best in Indy and he is looking for a patient family that would give him time to adjust. Indy promises to be the best kitty he could possibly be if you give him a chance!

FRONT DECLAWED
REBA

DOB September 2003

Reba is an elegant brown tabby Main Coon mix.  She is a senior who has had a very difficult time which has lead her to become easily stressed.  Poor Reba has lost her home at an age where a cat should be allowed to settle in and enjoy life but now she is surrounded by other cats and they do not seem to care for her presence - even though rumor has it that Oakie (see below) is quite fond of her.

Reba needs a home without children or dogs.  A low stress and caring home where she could watch birds out the window and sleep on her own pillow is what she would like.

FRONT DECLAWED
OAKIE

DOB August 2002

Oakie is a lovable little orange tabby that enjoys sitting next to you to keep you company, and loves it when you slowly stroke her soft orange fur. Peaceful and gentle, she would prefer a home that is relatively quiet.

Oakie and Sarah

FRONT DECLAWED
ELLIOTT

DOB 1999

Elliott is a playful, friendly little guy that likes giving head rubs to people who give him attention. He likes to be captain of his domain, and would highly prefer a household that doesn't have any other cats.

  SWISH

DOB: April 1998

Swish is a gorgeous Domestic Long Hair cat with striking eyes and a big bushy tail. She has a lot of facial expressions that will entertain, especially when she gets spooked by a sudden noise. Swish may need a few minutes to warm up to someone, but her charm makes her a cat that's worth getting to know once she opens up to you.

MOLLY SUE

DOB August 2003

Molly Sue is a beautiful charcoal gray tabby with a very shy but friendly demeanor. She loves getting attention and head rubs from people she trusts, and tends to calm down and be herself once she gets comfortable around you. Molly Sue would prefer a household that is peaceful and quiet.

Update: Molly Sue recently moved into a foster home and she is starting to blossom. Since strange places still scare her, Molly Sue will not attend adoption events for now. If you are interested in meeting her, please call the shelter. (Bill)

EVA

DOB: 2000

Eva is a voluptuous 10 year old calico. She is very affectionate once she knows who you are. She loves to be petted and sit on your lap. She's not too fond of being picked up - but as soon as you sit down, she wants to be in your lap.

She's lost some teeth but, as you can see from her figure, she doesn't skip any meals!! She eats hard food without any problems. Eva prefers peace and quiet when using her litter box and while she tolerates other cats, she would probably do better in a quiet home without other animals.

FRISCO

DOB February 2004

Frisco is a beautiful long hair all black male. Frisco is considered a buddy cat because he prefers to be with other cats or dogs and does not like to be around people.  He is very playful and will snuggle with other cats.  If you lived alone with no other cats he could possibly bond with you instead of depending on other cats for companionship because he does enjoy being brushed and he absolutely loves his daily cat treats.  (Ang)

ESMERELDA
DOB 2004
Esmerelda is a pretty Tortie spayed female that came in as a pregnant stray in December '07. She was a gentle and loving mother to her babies and is always willing to be petted or held.

IRENE
DOB 2004

Irene can be sweet at first, but can quickly get crabby if you pet her for too long.  She would prefer to be the only cat as she does not care for other cats to be near her. Irene enjoys humans and will rub against your legs to ask for affection.  She would not do well with children, as she will bite if her tail is pulled.

PATTIE

DOB 2004

Pattie is a gorgeous, short-haired, black & white girl with striking markings on her face.  This plump girl is friendly and cuddly.

MONET

DOB 2004

Pretty as a picture, Monet is true to her name.  She is a plump, gray & white beauty.  Monet was dumped at our shelter on New Year’s Day in 2007, so she is desperate to be adopted.  She has a pleasant disposition and would be picture perfect for any home.  Will you give her a great home?

HALLIE

DOB March 2004

Hallie is a pretty tabico (tabby calico) girl.  Her nickname was “Hurricane Hallie,” but she has mellowed out and is now a sweet cat with a pretty face.  Since she has lived at our shelter for many years, she would love to experience a home.

DIEGO

DOB April 2004

Do you like cats with a saucy personality?  If so, then Diego is your boy!  Diego is a lean and lanky Brown Tabby boy who likes to raise a little dander with the other cats.  He enjoys being petted and loved on, but he would probably do best in a home where he can be the dominant cat and with someone who doesn't mind a kitty with a mind of his own.

IZZY

DOB October 2004

Pretty little Izzy is very proud of herself - and why wouldn’t she? She can't prove it, but she's pretty sure that she came from Royalty. Izzy’s manners are always excellent, she always returns affection with affection and she tries her hardest to be the very best cat she can be.  After all, her royal lineage (even if it is just in her mind) demands she behave in the very best Cat-way possible. This means Izzy knows to be gentle and affectionate with people and to purr when they pet her. She knows if she continues to exhibit Her Royal Best, someday, she's just bound to find a forever palace to live out the rest of her days. At least, she hopes so……

Update: We have discovered that Izzy needs to be on a special diet to prevent kidney stones. Please consider sponsoring Izzy in our Sponsor-A-Pet Program to help pay for her special food and her medical needs.

LEVI

DOB January 2004

This handsome DSH black male was rescued from a house fire.  Levi loves everyone and does great with other cats.  His best friend is Frisco (see the Buddy Cat Page for Frisco) and they can often be seen leaning on each other while they walk together (why not adopt a pair?)  He does great with children too!  Levi is the perfect combination of being both affectionate and playful.  He would be happiest in a home where he can get plenty of love, preferably with another feline friend to keep him company while you are gone.  Levi is also neutered and current on all his shots (Angela)

**Levi is also listed on our FOSTER CAT PAGE

DAISY MAY

DOB June 2003

This beautiful Torbico is a real sweetie that was dumped by her previous owner and picked up by the Humane Society in November.  She's an affectionate girl but needs to be the only cat in the household.

FRONT DECLAWED

GABBY

DOB August 2001

Gabby is an older lady who is somewhat set in her ways….She's looking to find a forever home where she can do what she does best: Nap! Lying is the sun is one of her favorite pastimes. She enjoys the company of other cats as long as they don't ask her to do anything strenuous, but is up for a little snuggling. When she meets you for the first time, Gabby may seem a bit testy. But if you spend a little time with her she'll relax, purr and let you pet her (on her terms, of course!). Gabby isn't looking for the glamorous life filled with kitty condos and designer cat toys - a simple sun spot on a warm carpet is fine. And spending time with a good family of people and maybe a few other cats - well, that's the perfect retirement plan!

4 PAW DECLAWED

KARMA

DOB May 1999

Karma is a bit "untrusting" around people and other cats.  He came to our shelter with a collar so tight that he had trouble breathing.  He’s healed, but he’s cautious. However, he has warmed up to people, and has become a loving lap cat.  If you could gain his trust, you're sure to have a furry, loving friend for life.  Won't you take the chance and bring Karma into your life?

FRONT DECLAWED

JANIE

DOB December 2002

Janie is a plump, pretty Calico.  She loves people, but she doesn't appreciate all the other cats in our big cat room.  Janie tends to hang around in one of the cages where she feels secure.  More than anything else in the world, Janie wishes that a special person like you would come and take her away to her very own home.

HOLLY

DOB March 2002

Holly is a beautiful and friendly Dilute Colored Tortie who is on special food to keep her urinary tract healthy.  She does okay with other cats but gets a little bossy if they get too close. An only cat home where she can eat her special food and bask in your love and attention would be the best thing that ever happened to her.

Update: We have discovered that Holly needs to be on a special diet to prevent kidney stones. Please consider sponsoring Holly in our Sponsor-A-Pet Program to help pay for her special food and her medical needs.

OMAROSA

DOB 2003

Omarosa is a beautiful tortie, a spayed female.  When she is in a home she becomes a friendly lap cat. Unfortunately for her, she lives in our Main Cat Room with many other cats, which stresses her out. She can be friendly with some prospective adopters, but her quick mood changes will spoil that at times. If you can look past those quirky behaviors at our shelter, she will become a very good girl in your home.

PANDA

DOB February 2001

Panda is a black and white female who came to us as a pregnant stray. Having raised her six beautiful babies, she is now spayed and ready for a home of her own. Panda is very sweet natured. While she isn't too sure about being picked up and held, she does love attention and enjoys being petted. She loves to play with furry mice. She will often walk around the house carrying her furry toys while meowing and will drop them off at your feet to let you know she wants to play. Panda would do best in a quiet household without other cats. (R&B)

LOUIE

DOB 1996

Louie is a buff & white older male that has a moderate to severe chronic sniffle. At this time we consider him a Permanent Foster but if the right home came along we would definitely consider it. (SS)

Click here to sponsor Louie in our Sponsor-A-Pet Program

FRONT DECLAWED
GARFIELD

DOB January 1998

Garfield is one of our many old-timers.  He's a big, orange tabby who just wants a sunny window to nap in and a family to love.  Garfield loves to be massaged and rubbed, and he will crank up his rusty purr when he is scratched and rubbed.  Will you give Garfield his home and masseuse?

SOPHIE

DOB 2002

Sophie is a chubby blue-point siamese mix.  She's been in a foster home for a couple of years, but her foster Mom could no longer keep her. Sophie was miserable in our Main Cat Room and was able to find a new foster home.  She was originally found as a stray.  She would do best in a home with no other pets since she loves people but she HATES other cats. (Beth Ann)

DECLAWED

HOWARD

DOB 2001

Howard is a sleek, silky-soft black cat.  He has a long, slim body and a distinctive, triangle-shaped head.  Howard is easy-going and friendly.  As you can see, he enjoys curling up in a tight little ball for his afternoon nap.

Update: We have discovered that Howard needs to be on a special diet to prevent kidney stones. Please consider sponsoring Howard in our Sponsor-A-Pet Program to help pay for his special food and his medical needs.

SARAH

DOB 1998

Sarah is a dilute calico female that is considered a senior cat. She loves a strip of sunshine to lay in and a human to scratch her chin. Sarah is Queen of the Small Cat Room and rules with an iron paw - because of this she would prefer not to share her humans with other cats.

Update: Sarah recently developed a hematoma in her right ear and had to have surgery. As you can see in her second picture, he right ear ear now folds over, making her look like a Scottish Fold on one side.

November 2011: After a second hematoma in her other ear, Sarah has perfected her Scottish Fold look.

FAITH
DOB June 2000

Faith is a DSH brown tabby and white.  She's a bit scared at the shelter, but likes to be petted once she gets to know you.

FRONT DECLAWED
SALEM

DOB 2002

Salem has got to be one of the most well-known cats in our Main Cat Room.  She is always by the door ready to greet anyone who comes in, and if you're not careful she will try to make a break for it!  She is a chubby, short-haired black girl who enjoys being the center of attention.

Salem will need a quiet home without small children.
