BUDDY CATS

You may be wondering just what a "buddy" cat is?  Pet Refuge has many felines in our system who are somewhat shy around humans but . . . comfortable with other cats and/or dogs.

So, have you ever thought about getting your current lonely cat a "buddy" of her very own?  Or how about a pal for your "non-aggressive," bored canine? A "buddy" cat may be the solution to your pet's loneliness problem -- once and for all!

You can give a shy, hard-to-place, "buddy" cat a loving home as well as providing a furry friend for your own furry friend! And, who knows, after some time with a patient, understanding new owner, these shy kitties may become YOUR best "buddy" too!

Front Declawed

NUTMEG

DOB 2006

Hi there, you look friendly. I am shy and looking for a home where I can come out of my shell! My name is Nutmeg and I am a torti, full of fun, a little on the spicy side, and looking for a new home. I’ve been told I am very pretty. My coat is a wonderful mix of patches of black, brown, amber, and cream, just like the yummy spice I am named for. Perhaps you have heard, the Celts believed that tortoiseshell cats brought good luck in a home.

I am five years old and declawed. I love to cuddle and once I know you are kind and caring, I will snuggle by your side on the couch or in bed. I am very shy, although given time and a chance, I make friends. I love to play with toys and will even retrieve them! And of course, I like treats.

I’ve had a bit of a rough start and am so thankful for my Pet Refuge friends. I started off as a very shy older kitten at Pet Refuge, and then I was adopted as a buddy cat along with another cat. My owner had to give me up and I came back to Pet Refuge. I was adopted again, and lived for two years with two other cats. One of the cats was nice to me and the other one bullied me sometimes and would guard the entrance to the room so I couldn't leave. Then the owner moved two dogs in the house and I became more stressed. I would love to find a forever home where it would be quiet, maybe I could be the only pet and with someone that would give me lots of time to adjust to my new home. It took me 6 months at my last home, but I will make it worth it with lots of love.

If you would like to add a little spice - and maybe even some good luck - to your life, please think about me, Nutmeg, and I will add warmth and love to your home. I only ask for your love, warmth, patience and time to get to know you.

LADYBIRD

Ladybird was rescued from a hoarding situation - she was nursing 5 kittens (all have been adopted!), which was her ticket out of the house! She's very shy when she first meets you, and she needs a home that will give her some time to blossom. She tends to be the dominant cat, so a house with no cats or dogs, or a few cats that are more laid-back would be perfect for her. But when you give her some time, she's such a sweetheart. She meows to let you know she wants to be petted, and loves to have her chin rubbed. This beautiful girl had a rough start, but with the right home she'll be a wonderful pet! (Cheri)
BETHANY

DOB May 2008

Bethany is very shy but so sweet.   Once you gain her trust she will purr for you but she really needs a quiet low stress home.
ROMANO

DOB November 2009

Romano is an energetic, playful little guy that enjoys playing with other energetic cats. He's shy with people at first, but would settle in well with a new family given some time. Romano came from a traumatic situation that left him with an eye infection and impaired vision. Now that the infection is gone, he seems to get around fine with what vision he has left. He's really quite a trooper.

PIRATE

DOB January 2010

Pirate came to Pet Refuge with a badly damaged right eye that had to be removed. He loves to play with other cats but will take many weeks before he is comfortable enough to be petted. He can be a friendly and playful boy in a lower key setting with at least one other cat and he is looking for that special home that will give him time to adjust. (K+C)

Lucy with her foster siblings
LUCY

DOB September 2009

Lucy was born in someone's basement - and that is where she spent the first 6 months of her life, without much human contact. Not surprisingly, Lucy was very unsure of people when she first came to us. The first few weeks in her foster home, she literally climbed up walls whenever her foster mom approached. She has come a long ways since then and is now happy to run around and play with her foster siblings. Lucy still gets scared of loud noises and sudden movements, but she recovers much faster. She will even take treats out of her foster mom's hand.

Lucy will probably never be a lap cat, but she would be a wonderful companion to another cat. She loves other animals and it is a joy to watch her play with them. (Christina)

MIA

OPAL
MIA & OPAL

DOB 2008 & 2009

Mia and Opal are very shy girls that need to be adopted together.  Mia (brown/white tabby) is about two years old and is very sweet.  Opal, an Abyssinian/Tabby mix, is about 1 year old and is a playful girl (she plays fetch with feather toys).  In the morning and evening, they wait patiently by the door to their room for their foster mom to give them lovin' and treats.  They've made a lot of progress with their socialization and are adoptable but would be best in a fairly quiet adults-only home with someone who's willing to continue to patiently continue to help them get used to being around people. (Carlene)

TANGERINE

DOB November 2006

Tangerine is a short-haired orange tabby female.  She came to Pet Refuge with her siblings, Tangelo and Temple, who both have been adopted.  Tangerine is still with us, though.  She tends to be overlooked in our Main Cat Room since she is a bit shy.  Tangerine would do best in a peaceful home where she would have the opportunity to come out of her shell.

Rascal (see Shelter Cats) and Tangerine have recently formed a friendship in the MCR and it is so adorable!  You can frequently find them cuddled together sleeping in their favorite bed.  We're very happy about this, especially for Tangerine's sake.  Tangerine has been with us for a while and is somewhat shy, so she goes unnoticed by potential adopters.  We sure would like to see Rascal and Tangerine adopted together so they can be friends forever.

DARLA

DOB April 2009

Darla is looking for a very special person.

She knows she isn't the kind of cat most people want to adopt, but she's just hoping there's a special soul out there who will understand her. You see, when you love Darla, you have to love her from a distance. She's too scared to let you pet her - yet. She lived her whole life outdoors, fending for herself until she was taken in by Pet Refuge. At first the poor girl just wouldn't let anyone touch her.  She's working on that, though.  She's more and more curious about humans now that she knows that some are nice.  So she's hoping there might be someone who can love a cat that not many can. Is that you? If so, Darla really wants to know you!

PANCAKE

DOB March 2007

Pancake is a sweet DSH black and white female that has a brother, Waffle that has so far, declined to be photographed. She would prefer a quieter home with more laid back cats and does best in smaller surroundings. Too much room to roam and too much activity can be a bit overwhelming for her. She does well with other cats and likes to play. She absolutely loves it when she gets canned food as a treat. Her favorite place to nap is behind her foster mom's computer monitor.

GIZMO

DOB October 2006

Gizmo is a very sweet and shy spayed tortie female that would be a good buddy for another cat as she tends to be on the shy side. In time she does adjust and decides that it is ok to be petted. She has even taken to snuggling in bed with her foster parents and rolling over for belly rubs. She would need a quiet and patient home willing to give her the time she needs to blossom. She enjoys playing with toys on strings and watching the birds out the window.

MATILDA

DOB July 2007

Matilda is a beautiful Silver Classic Tabby Manx that is unfortunately very shy and would do best with at least one other friendly cat.
Rox

KENNY

DOB April 2005

Kenny was found as an adult stray,  and he is very shy, which is probably the result of a not so easy life.   He does  get along fine with the other cats,  and will take some attention from humans, but not too much.  He will need a very patient owner, who understands all his quirks. Kenny is available as a buddy cat.

And since Kenny suffers from Asthma, he will need a smoke-free home.

FLETCHER

DOB 2005

Fletcher is a handsome, male brown tabby.  Although shy with people, he gets along with other cats great.

FRISCO

DOB February 2004

Frisco is a beautiful long hair all black male. Frisco is considered a buddy cat because he prefers to be with other cats or dogs and does not like to be around people.  He is very playful and will snuggle with other cats.  If you lived alone with no other cats he could possibly bond with you instead of depending on other cats for companionship because he does enjoy being brushed and he absolutely loves his daily cat treats.  (Ang)
